Lore Scroll: Light Up The Leaves

ree

"What I want is to stop the suffering," A soft voice whispered to the magus in front of her. Head down in reverence, Cylan could barely comprehend being in front of such a powerful wizard. A snort was her reward.

"Spare me, child," came a musical melody that hid disdain behind a small veneer of loveliness, "what you really wish is only to bring suffering unto those of your choosing." A soft rustle forced Cylan to look up, startled. Verdance moved like a leaf in the breeze, her motions a beautiful spring day. Auburn hair burned brightly in the sun, each stand seemingly pulling the energy from its rays.

"You suffered the Rot, like we all have. But even from death can we find our peace. Cylan's green robes fluttered gently in the calm breeze that seemed to follow Verdance wherever she strode. The Thorn of the Rose was at Cylan's side now, her face a mixture of sadness, regret, and anger.

"The Rotwood Harbinger," she stopped, as if forcing herself to continue, "Florian, was bringing about change. Change that I resisted. Now, I must continue to work toward that end, as whatever happens next, will require all of us to work together. Not just Candlehold." The soft breeze kicked up then, swirling the leaves around her dress. With a swift clap from Verdance, Cylan found her wand her in her hands, and the leaves gently dissolving around the Thorn as they continued to swirl.

Cylan felt a tug of the magic then. Reminding her not only that she could create, but that nature itself could also use that power to destroy. She reached out and embraced the pull with her mind, and a wry smile formed on her lips. This is what Verdance meant; she could stop the suffering by helping the decay, moving it forward. Cylan pushed her will out, and the leaves glowed brightly as they began to swirl around her. Verdance only nodded her head in approval at her newest apprentice and left Cylan dancing with the leaves.
